Neri Zilber, a journalist and analyst on Middle East politics and culture, is an adjunct fellow of The Washington Institute. He was previously a visiting scholar at the Institute in 2014-2015, where his research focused on the Middle East Peace Process, with particular emphasis on Palestinian economics and state-building. He was most recently the Director of Research and Senior Fellow at BICOM, a U.K. think tank, in 2019-2020.
Zilber is a regular contributor to The Daily Beast, Foreign Policy, and Politico, and his work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Guardian, Atlantic, New Republic, Foreign Affairs, and IHS Jane's.
Zilber is quoted regularly in the international press, and has appeared in interviews with CNN, BBC, France 24, Al Jazeera English, CNBC Asia, and NPR.
In addition to reportage and commentary on Middle East affairs, Zilber consults for the private sector on regional political and economic risk. He has held fellowships at the Heinrich Boell Stiftung (Transatlantic Media Fellow 2019), the Rubin Center at the Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya (2016-2017), the Institute of Current World Affairs (2011-2013), and the U.S. Library of Congress (2005-2006). He formerly worked as a research assistant at the Institute from 2004 to 2005.
Zilber was raised and educated in Israel, Singapore, Spain, and the United States. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University and a master’s degree from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.
